Two stabbed at house party

Two men were stabbed at a house party in the Hosford-Abernathy neighborhod early Saturday morning.

The victims were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. A few hours later, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Central Precinct officers arrested the suspect, James Spencer Hill Jr., after a foot pursuit along the Eastbank Esplanade.

Officers spotted Hill riding a bicycle at Salmon Street and he rode away northbound, then got off the bike, climbed a fence and ran across I-5 before being caught by police at Southeast Morrison Street and Water Avenue.

Officers had previously determined that Hill was the suspect in the double stabbing.

Hill was booked in to the Multnomah County Jail on a Probation Violation and will be charged with two counts each of Assault in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.

The victims, Jesse Bettis, 28, and Joshua Jackson, 30, are continuing to recover from their injuries.

According to police, at 5:17 a.m. on July 20, Central Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Southeast Division Street on the report of two people stabbed and a suspect on the loose.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the victims suffering from stab wounds. Several officers, including a Police K-9, searched the Ladd's Addition area for the suspect but did not locate anyone matching his description.
