The Portland Tribune took three first-place awards in the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association’s 2013 associate member contest during the weekend.

In all, Pamplin Media Group’s 24 newspapers collected more than 70 awards in the contest that covered newspaper articles and photos published in 2012. Top awards for general excellence went to the Gresham Outlook (second place in its circulation category), the West Linn Tidings (first place), the Lake Oswego Review (second place), the Tigard/Tualatin Times (second place) and the Beaverton Valley Times (third place).

ONPA’s awards were announced Friday during the association’s three-day gathering late last week in Bend.

The Tribune received first-place awards for writing, target audience and photography. The paper also received a third-place award for design.

Tribune reporters Peter Korn, Steve Law and Jennifer Anderson swept the writing awards, finishing one-two-three in the contest.

The Tribune competes in the ONPA Associate Member category because it is distributed free. ONPA members with paid circulation compete in the Better Newspaper Contest.
