Kitzhaber: Special session decision soon
Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber will decide whether to call the Oregon Legislature into special session within a week.
The East Oregonian reported that Kitzhaber made the announcement during a meeting with local education leaders from Hermiston and Pendleton Thursday to discuss PERS reforms that could benefit local budgets.
Monkeying around with PERS is controversial, getting new revenue is controversial, so theres something for everybody, Kitzhaber said.
Other potential issues include a proposal to have Oregon and the federal government build a modified version of the Columbia River Crossing. The 2013 Oregon Legislature approved $405 million for the I-5 bridge replacement and freeway improvement project. The plan was considered dead after the Washington Legislature failed to approve its share of the project.
