Police responded to a fight and a shooting along Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard early Saturday.
The two incidents do not appear to be related.
According to police, at 1:51 a.m. on Sept. 14, East Precinct officers responded to the 4900 block of Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard on the report of a fight with a weapon.
When the officers arrived in the area, they learned that two males were involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of Sewickley's Addition, located at 4901 Southeast Hawthorne Street.
When bar security intervened in the fight, one of the men displayed a handgun and menaced a crowd of people. A security officer knocked the gun out of the man's hand.
Both men fled the scene but were quickly located by arriving officers.
The man who displayed the gun, Isaiah Kent, 25, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, and Menacing.
As the officers were completing their investigation, they heard a gunshot at Southeast 49th Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard. when they responded, the officers found a shooting victim, Jeremy Draper, 25, lying on the ground in a pool of blood. He had been shot in the left arm and also was suffering some facial injuries from a fight.
Draper was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.
The officers learned that Draper had been involved in an argument and fight with another man, who pulled out a handgun and shot him once. The shooting suspect then fled the area and was not located after an extensive neighborhood search by police.
The suspect is described as a stocky white male adult with black hair and a beard.
