Small fire at Portland Art Museum
A small electrical fire caused minimal damage at the Portland Art Museum on Saturday.
According to Portland Fire & Rescue, at 5:28 p.m. on Sept. 28, firefighters responded to a report of dark smoke inside the museum at 1219 SW Park Ave.
When crews arrived, they assisted with evacuating people from the immediate area and began their investigation for the source of the smoke. There was light smoke inside the grand ballroom and It was discovered that an electrical box used for stage lighting was the source.
Power was shut off to the electrical equipment and fire crews used carbon dioxide extinguishers on the remaining fire. The incident was brought under control at 5:38pm.
The fire did not extend beyond the electrical box. The cause is unspecified electrical failure and there was no immediate damage estimate at this time.
