Pedestrian struck on Powell dies of injuries

A pedestrian struck Friday afternoon while crossing Southeast Powell Boulevard has died from her injuries at a Portland hospital.

The victim is identified as Valentine Khubeyeva, 70. The driver is identified as Charles McBride. He is cooperating with the investigation and has not been cited or arrested.

According to police, 6:24 p.m. on Dec. 13, East Precinct officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck on Southeast Powell Boulevard at 133rd Avenue. Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the pedestrian, later identified as Khubeyeva, suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment.

Investigators learned the woman was atempting to cross Powell Boulevard from South to North in the 13300 block when she was struck by an eastbound GMC Yukon driven by a 67-year-old man. There is no marked crosswalk at this location.

The driver was not impaired by drugs or alcohol and cooperated fully with the investigation.

Investigators believe darkness, dense fog and dark clothing worn by the woman were contributing factors to this crash. The driver's estimated speed was between 25 and 30 miles per hour.

After the investigation is complete, it will be sent to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
