by: COURTESY OF PORTLAND FIRE AND RESCUE: DICK HARRIS - Portland firefighters used air jacks and other tools to free a man from under a southbound Green Line MAX train Sunday afternoon. The man was seriously injured when he was struck by the train and pinned underneath for nearly a half hour.The man who had been seriously injured after being struck by a MAX train on TriMet's Green Line, has died from his injuries.

Phu Van Nguyen, 48, a resident of Southeast Portland's Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood, died at a Portland hospital on Sunday evening. Nguyen was struck Sunday afternoon by a southbound light-rail train at Southeast 94th Avenue and Division Street.

TriMet officials said Nguyen apparently walked or ran in front a train around 4:30 p.m. as it slowed while approaching the platform at the Division Street Station. Portland Fire and Rescue crews freed the man from under the train. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

TriMet is continuing to investigate the incident.
