Elderly woman mugged in SE Portland
An 89-year-old woman was robbed of her purse and hurt in Southeast Portland on Tuesday afternoon.
The woman, whose name was not released, suffered several facial, hand and leg injuries. She was treated at the scene by medical personnel and later at a Portland hospital. Her glasses were also broken during the struggle.
The suspect is described as a white female in her 30s, 5'7" tall, medium build, who was riding in the back seat of an orange 1970s station wagon.
According to police, at 2:39 p.m. on Jan. 7, East Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 2100 block of Southeast 148th Place on the report of a strong-arm robbery. The officers arrived and contacted the victim, who said that she had just returned home from her neighborhood Fred Meyer store and pulled into her driveway when an orange 1970s station wagon parked in front of her mailbox. The victim told police that when a woman got out of the back seat of the station wagon, she told her that she couldn't park in front of the mailboxes.
According to the victim, the woman then approached her and grabbed her purse. The victim held onto her purse but the woman pulled harder and threw the victim to the ground. After getting the purse from the victim, the suspect and vehicle left the area.
The victim's purse contained a small amount of cash, credit and debit cards and other miscellaneous ID and property.
