Two arrested for Pal's Shanty fire
Police have arrested two men for starting the fire that heavily damaged Pal's Shanty Tavern last November.
Marcus Tyler, a five-year employee, and Michael Duncan have been charged with burglary, arson, and criminal mischief.
Fire crews were called to the popular Hollywood neighborhood tavern at 4630 N.E. Sandy Blvd. just before 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 15. Callers reported hearing an explosion and then seeing sparks and smoke coming from a second-story window. This fire quickly went to a second alarm, resulting in more firefighting crews and equipment being dispatched.
The arrests were the result of a cooperative effort between Portland Fire & Rescue investigators and the Portland Police Bureau.
"It was a joint effort between Portland Police and Portland Fire," said PF&R spokesman Ron Rouse, "and it feels good to know we were able to work together and help to bring the owners of Pal's Shanty some closure."
