Free Community College After High School? Maybe
(Portland Radio Project) Oregon high school graduates would get two free years of community college under a new proposal in the Oregon Legislature. The Salem Statesman-Journal reports a study of the idea is close to approval. Beaverton Representative Mark Haas is sponsoring the bill. Free post-high school education would cost the state somewhere between $100 million and $200 million per biennium, but Haas says paying for school is still cheaper than paying social services for people who don't have the education to get jobs.
