by: YAMHILL COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Francis Paul WeaverThe son of convicted Oregon City murdered Ward Weaver has been arrested for murder.

Francis Paul Weaver, 31, is charged with murder in the death of Edward Spangler, a Grants Pass man killed in Canby on Sunday morning in what police said was a drug deal that turned violent.

Weaver is the son of Ward Weaver, who is serving a life sentence for the sexual assault, rape, attempted murder, and the murders of Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis in Oregon City, Oregon.

Earlier, Michael Orren and Shannon Bettencourt were arrested. Orren was charged with murder, and Bettencourt originally was charged with robbery. But officials increased the charge on Bettencourt to murder.

Around 5 a.m. Sunday, Canby police found Spangler dead in a crashed Hyundai SUV in Locust Park. The SUV hit a power pole, but Spangler had been shot to death.

Investigators said Spangler’s body was found next to his car. They believe Spangler went to the apartment complex to buy drugs but was assaulted by at least two people who tried to rob him. Orren was identified as a suspect and he answered questions for the investigators, Canby police said in a release.

The gun used to kill Spangler was found during the investigation.
