Marshals arrest Montana fugitive in Portland
A federal fugitive sought for assault of a Bozeman, Mont., police officer was arrested Friday evening in Portland.
The U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force arrested 28-year-old Kevin Anthony Briggs at about 6:45 p.m. Feb. 21 in a van stopped by Portland police in the 4100 block of Southeast Woodward Street. He was arrested without incident.
U.S. Marshals had been looking for Briggs since his Feb. 1 escape from the Bozeman Police Department, where he was being held on charges for aggravated assault, attempted sexual intercourse without consent, assault on a peace officer and a federal unlawful flight to avoid prosecution charge.
Since his escape, an investigation and public tips led U.S. Marshals Task Force members to check locations in Portland and parts of the Pacific Northwest, including California.
Briggs will be booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and awaits removal to Montana.
