Painting a Better Tomorrow program unites paint rivals for good cause

Portland Home Builders Foundation spruces up area homeless shelters

The Portland Home Builders Foundation held its one-day volunteer blitz on Saturday, March 1, to help clean up, paint and perform minor repairs on Portland-area nonprofit agency buildings serving the homeless.

Now in its eighth year, Painting a Better Tomorrow is made possible through the contributions of the home building community and the generosity of Miller Paint, Rodda Paint and Bank of America.

“It’s great to see competitors joining together for a worthy cause,” said Ken Cowdery, Executive Director of the HBF. “Painting a Better Tomorrow brightens the lives of shelter residents and demonstrates the commitment the (Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland) has to our community.”

This year, teams of Home Builders Association members helped shape up and dignify Bradley Angle’s emergency shelter, Domestic Violence Resource Center’s Monika’s House, Volunteers of America’s Linn House and two Youth Progress Facilities — Smith House and Jordan House.

The Home Builders Foundation, established in 1997, is the charity of choice for the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland. Its mission is to build transitional shelter for families in need and provide construction-related educational opportunities for youth in need. Visit BuildHopePDX.org for more information.
