Teen injured dashing across Highway 224
According to the Milwaukie Police Department, two teenage boys tried to cross 50 mph speed-limit area at 37th Avenue without a walk signal Saturday at 8:58 p.m., and one was hit by a pickup westbound on Highway 224.
Facebook conversations about the incident have since discussed how Milwaukie High School sophomore Nick Larson wasnt hurt, but MHS junior Zach OLeary was transported by ambulance to OHSU with non-life-threatening leg fractures.
Due to federal regulations, MHS Principal Mark Pinder could not confirm the identity of the students, but he did note that an emphasis on safety has long been a priority for the suburban school.
We tell students to be safe and always use crosswalks and lights, and were really sad that at least one student was injured according to reports, Pinder said.
Police said the driver of the 2004 Ford F150 pickup had the right-of-way on a green traffic light. She stopped immediately, stayed on-scene and is cooperating with the investigation. There was no indication alcohol or drugs were involved.
