Youth anti-violence summit set

The third annual Rob Ingram Youth Summit Against Violence is set for April 5, and organizers are encouraging young people to register for the event.

The Multnomah County Youth Commission is spearheading the effort, having established a Youth Against Violence Committee in 2011. The group has identified seven types of violence: anti-gay and gender, cyberbullying, gang, home/family, police, school bullying, and sexual and dating violence.

The summit will be held at the Ambridge Event Center, 1333 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

This year’s program will offer more hands-on activities, artistic expression, and in-depth exploration of gang, police, school and sexual and dating violence, which surveys from past summits have indicated more interest in.

Youth will talk in the morning, then policymakers and community leaders will attend in the afternoon to listen to stories and engage in conversations about reducing the violence.

On-site licensed child care is available, as well as breakfast, lunch and snacks, and a raffle. For more, visit www.eventbrite.com/e/3rd-annual-rob-ingram-youth-summit-against-violence-2014-tickets-10302913291.
