Power restored to Good Samaritan Medical Center

Hospital was running on generators after power failure

(Oregon Public Broadcasting) — Portland General Electric has restored power to Portland's Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center.

The hospital had been running on power from its back-up generators since a power switch failed last night in Northwest Portland. The failure blew a high voltage fuse and produced a loud crack and bright flash on Northwest 23rd Avenue.

Spokeswoman Megan Turnell says the hospital's patients received normal care.

"The lights are a little bit dim, so we have to use flash lights. But no one has been evacuated, babies are still being born and we're able to do emergency C-sections here."

As a precaution, Good Samaritan is not receiving ambulances or new emergency cases. And it has postponed some patients' elective surgeries until next week.
