Teenage girl latest SE Portland gang shooting victim

A teenage girl was wounded Sunday night in the latest of gang-related shootings in Southeast Portland.

The girl's name was not released. She was treated at a Portland hospital with what police say is a non-life threatening gunshot wound. It is the fifth gang-related shooting in Southeast Portland that police have investigated in the past week.

According to police, at 11:23 p.m. on March 23, East Precinct and Gang Enforcement Team officers responded to the report of a fight and gunshots heard at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Mill Street. When officers arrived, they found a large group of teens in the street. The wounded girl was with the group.

As officers were looking for evidence of a crime, several fights broke out in the crowd and additional officers were called to restore order.

Officers located a crime scene and evidence of gunfire on Mill Street, east of 122nd Avenue.

Police said the shooting suspect is an African American man in his late teens or early 20s, about 5-foot-11 with an average build. He allegedly fired several shots into the crowd then ran east on Mill Avenue.

According to witnesses, there was a party at the American Legion Hall, 1830 S.E. 122nd Ave., and two groups of people became involved in a verbal dispute outside. Someone fired the shots during the argument.
