Police car hit by stolen vehicle
A Portland police car was struck by the driver of a stolen vehicle early Sunday.
No one was hurt in the incident.
The driver, Derek Wayne Coulson, 27, was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony and misdemeanor elude and hit and run. He was associated with an earlier attempt to elude police during an incident several days earlier.
Coulson's passenger, Kayla Snow, 31, was charged with interfering with a peace officer and unlawful entry to a motor vehicle.
The name of the officer was not immediately released.
According to police, at 6:06 a.m. on May 18,a North Precinct police officer located a vehicle which had been reported stolen at around 4:50 a.m. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which fled the scene.
A pursuit ensued which ended in the 1300 block of S.W. Broadway Drive. The driver of the stolen vehicle struck a police car during the pursuit. The contact was a relatively low speed the suspect vehicle was in reverse at the time but damaged the bumper of the police car.
The driver fled the vehicle, later identified as Coulson, and was taken into custody after a brief K9 search. The passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Snow, was taken into custody at the scene.
