by: PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU - Samantha Jean WilliamsonA 17-year-old teen mom and her nearly 2-year-old son were found safe after being reported missing from a Northwest Portland center that helps teen moms adjust to their new lives.

Police said they were called to the White Shield Center in the 2600 block of Northwest Alexandra Street around 12:45 a.m. Thursday on a report that the teen — who police have identified as Samantha Jean Williamson — had fled the center with her 20-month-old child.

Nearly a dozen officers searched the heavily wooded area around the center for four hours. A search and rescue dog with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office was unable to find their scent.

Police said they do not have a cellphone to track, which makes the searching difficult. The bureau’s Air Support Unit was activated to help search. The airplane has a pilot and another officer who can use thermal imagining technology to search the ground from the sky.

Williamson was later found in Sweet Home.
