A 15-year-old boy with Asperger Syndrome was reunited with his family near Tryon Creek State Park Saturday afternoon, hours after he went missing in the natural area near Lake Oswego.

Portland police said “W” Mooney was reported missing Saturday morning between 9:30 and 10 a.m. after he took off on his own while hiking in the park with his family. Mooney told family members he would meet up with them later.

When Mooney didn’t return, his family called police. Portland police began searching the park with the help of Portland Parks and Recreation park rangers, the Lake Oswego Police Department and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

A few hours later, Mooney walked to a neighboring house and asked residents to call police. He was reunited with his family a short time later.
