by: KOIN NEWS 6 - This black bear was photograpned in Northeast Portland early Wednesday.A black bear who found his way into Northeast Portland Wednesday morning has been tranquilized and removed from the neighborhood.

The bear was tranquilized in a tree by Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel. Portland Fire & Rescue helped remove the bear from tree and transport it to another location.

by: PORTLAND FIRE & RESCUE - Portland firefighter Bill Schimel secures the bear to a harness after it is tranquilzed in a Northeast Portland tree.Portland police officers spotted the bear — described as about five feet tall standing upright — around 3:15 a.m. after receiving a report an animal had broken through multiple fences in a Northeast 38th Avenue and Jessup Street neighborhood.

Bureau officials said the bear, at one time cornered in a tree in the 5600 block of NE 36th Ave., had shown no signs of aggression.

by: PORTLAND FIRE & RESCUE - An Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife employee examines the bear after it has been lowered from the tree.By 5:30 a.m. the bear was back on the ground, running through the neighborhood. It then climbed into another tree, where it was captured.

Because the bear caused no injuries or damage, it will be released back into the wild.
