Work on the Portland Streetcar line near Portland State University will completely close Southwest Montgomery Street from Fourth to Fifth avenues, starting on Monday.
In addition, periodic lane closures will be required on Southwest Fourth Avenue between Harrison and Mill streets.
The closures will continue from Aug. 11 through Sept. 28. Construction is scheduled to be complete before classes resume at PSU on Sept. 29.
The closures will allow the Portland Bureau of Transportation to construct of a second streetcar track that will extend service over the Tilikum Crossing Transit Bridge beginning in September 2015. There is only track on that stretch of Montgomery now, causing delays in streetcar service that will increase after the bridge opens if a second track is not installed to match the rest of the system.
The traveling public is asked to follow signs and use caution in work zones.
