Indoor pools will remain open.A Portland-area air quality alert has prompted Portland Parks & Recreation to close its outdoor pools through Friday.

Indoor pools will remain open both days. They are:

• Columbia Pool, 7701 N. Chautauqua Blvd., 503-823-3669

• East Portland Pool, 740 S.E. 106th Ave., 503-823-3450

• Matt Dishman Pool, 77 N.E. Knott St., 503-823-3673

• Mt. Scott Pool, 5530 S.E. 72nd Ave., 503-823-3183

• Southwest Pool, 6820 S.W. 45th Ave., 503-823-2840

Oregon's Department of Environmental Quality issued the air quality alert Wednesday, Aug. 2, after smoke from wildfires in Central Oregon and British Columbia drifted into the Willamette Valley. DEQ officials said the smoke combined with excessive heat from triple-digit temperatures could make the air dangerous for people with respiratory ailments.

Free Lunch and Play sites will be staffed through lunch only on Friday, Aug. 4, to serve lunches. The Ladybug Nature Walk planned for Columbia Children's Arboretum on Friday has been canceled. Nature Day Camps and Rockin' Robin Camps at Sellwood Park and Marshall Park also were canceled for Friday.

Thursday's concert in Kenton Park and a movie in the North Park Blocks were canceled by the bureau.
