UPDATE: Police identify pedestrian victim of I-5 crash
A woman pedestrian was stuck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on I-5 in Northeast Portland early Wednesday.
Police have identifed the victim as Madison V. Ries, 25, of Portland.
Based on information learned during the investigation, members of the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Investigation Unit believe there was a white or gray pick-up truck involved with this crash or near the crash when it occurred. Investigators believe the truck likely has no damage, but may have some minor front end or undercarriage damage as a result of this incident.
According to police, at 1:14 a.m. on Nov. 8, North Precinct officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on southbound Interstate 5 near the Northeast Skidmore Street overpass.
When officers and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene, they located a woman laying in the travel lanes of the I-5 with catastrophic injuries. Medical personnel determined the woman was deceased.
Officers contacted the person who contacted 9-1-1 and learned the driver and vehicle that had struck the woman had left the crash scene.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team responded to the area to take over the investigation.
Southbound Interstate 5 was closed for several hours as officers investigate this fatal crash.
This is the 40th traffic fatality and 45th Major Crash Team investigation in Portland in 2017.
