Shots fired, a wounded victim, and an arrest -- the crime is suspected to be gang-related

MCDC BOOKING PHOTO - Downtown shooting suspect Alejandro R. VanceOn Saturday morning, at 1:26 a.m., Central Precinct officers assigned to the Entertainment Detail were in the area of N.W. 4th Avenue and Couch Street when they heard multiple gunshots.

Officers located several witnesses who werre able to confirm that there had been a shooting. The witnesses provided officers with critical information, the shooter's description, and his last known location. This information was broadcast, and responding officers were able to find a man matching the suspect's description near the intersection of S.W. 4th Avenue and Ankeny Street, and he was taken into custody without incident.

As officers continued to investigate the shooting, they canvassed the area near the original shots-fired location as well as where the suspect had been taken into custody. Officers located and seized evidence of gunfire at the original crime scene, while others found a gun near S.W. 5th and Ankeny.

While officers continued to investigate the shooting, an man arrived at a nearby hospital with what is believed to be a serious but non-life-threatening gunshot injury. Based on information learned at the hospital by responding officers, the victim at the hospita is thought to have been injured in the area of N.W. 4th Avenue and Couch.

Officers and the hospital security department determined that the victim had been transported to the hospital by a private vehicle. The then found the vehicle believed to have transported the victim to the hospital in a nearby parking lot -- it had several bullet strikes.

Based on information learned during the investigation, the Gang Enforcement Team responded to the location and assisted with the investigation.

Based on information learned at this point in the investigation, it is believed the suspect shot at the victim, while the victim was in a vehicle near N.W. Couch Street and 4th Avenue.

The suspect, 24-year-old Alejandro R. Vance, was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Attempt Aggravated Murder, Assault in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, and a post prison violation for a previous conviction of Attempt Assault in the Second Degree.
