Gresham man faces charges in death of Forest Grove man in crash
A Gresham man faces manslaughter, DUII and assault charges after he crashed his van into a motorcycle Saturday night on Highway 26 just east of Rhododendron.
Forest Grove resident David S. Weiss, the 71-year-old Harley Davidson driver, was killed in the crash. His 70-year-old female passenger, Nancy Jo Ludwig of Hillsboro, was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the van is identied as Robert E. Walsh, 54, of Gresham. Walsh was arrested for second-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence of intoxicants and second-degree assault.
According to the Oregon State Police, Walsh was driving a Chrysler Town & Country van on Highway 26 when he crossed into the oncoming lane on a curve and slammed into the Harley around 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 13.
Officials said the Harley riders had helmets on at the time of the crash.
OSP was assisted by Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, multi-agency CRAFT Team, Hoodland Fire Department, and Oregon Department of Transportation.
