Suspect arrested in downtown killing
Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal downtown shooting Sunday afternoon.
Aaron Drake Birt, 24, is charged with murder.
The victim is identified as Ellante Davone Williams, 30, of Portland. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office determined Williams died of homicidal violence as a result of a gunshot injury.
According to police, Birt was arrested at Southwest 3rd and Southwest Morrison at 5:48 p.m. on Sunday by Central Precinct officers after they responded to reports of a shooting near Southwest 4th and Southwest Stark.
When officers got on scene, they found a man inside a parked car at the intersection of Southwest Stark Street and Southwest 4th Avenue. The man had critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
Birt was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
As they searched the area, officers located evidence of gunfire near the car in which the man was found.
Investigators do not believe there is an immediate danger to the public based on information learned at this time in the investigation.
