The roof of the Summerfield Clubhouse has been a bone of contention for as long as anyone in the 55-plus community can remember.
The Clubhouse opened in 1974, and the roof has had leaks and problems ever since, according to Summerfield Civic Association Administrator Cari Froeber in her nomination that resulted in the SCA winning the Community Association Institute's Oregon Chapters 2013 Association of the Year in the very-large category. (See April 2014 Regal Courier.)
Using a Wizard of Oz theme, Froeber wrote of the roof, "Fix or replace? What would the Wizard say? The Wizard said, 'Replace. And while we're up there, replace the rotten wooden enclosure that screens all of the HVAC equipment. And while you're up there, replace the defunct A/C unit too (which entails replacement by crane).'
"All of these decisions, bidding and consultations were throughout 2013, with the actual work beginning in spring 2014."
Froeber arranged for a crane to come and lift off the units, but it showed up unexpectedly April 2 and efficiently and safely removed the HVAC units.
"I would love some kudos to our awesome HVAC team - Northwest Commercial Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. in Clackamas," Froeber said.
