It took three City Council meetings to iron out the details, but effective June 1, Pride Disposal is making rate and service changes to its King City customers, which now includes the Highlands.
At its May 3 meeting, the City Council approved the following plan:
Customers will no longer be charged a flat monthly fee plus a pick-up fee for each garbage pick-up. All rates will change to one flat fee for the month, which is based on the size of customers' garbage carts.
There will now be two different rates: one for garbage, recycling and yard debris for customers who participate in yard debris collection and one for garbage and recycling only with no yard-debris pick-up.
For those participating in yard-debris service, yard debris will be picked up every other week as of June 1 on the opposite week from recycling.
Monthly rates without yard debris will be $19.17/month for a 20-gallon cart; $21.83/month for a 32-gallon cart; $29.80/month for a 60-gallon cart; and $37.69/month for a 90-gallon cart.
Monthly rates with yard debris will be $22.28/month for a 20-gallon cart; $24.94/month for a 32-gallon cart; $32.91/month for a 60-gallon cart; and $40.80/month for a 90-gallon cart.
On-call service provided in a 32-gallon cart will cost $12.50 per pick-up. For on-call service, customers are only charged the pick-up fee if they have scheduled a pick-up.
According to Kristin Leichner, president of Pride Disposal, customers who are not currently filling their garbage cart every week or are not putting it out every week for service may find it more cost effective to downsize to a smaller cart or switch to on-call service.
