On May 18, the King City Travel will experience a culture other than ours. The Club will travel to the Lan Su Chinese Garden in Portland.

The garden is one of Portland's greatest treasures. Built by Chinese artisans from our sister city Sushau, home of China's famous ancient gardens, it's often been called the most authentic Chinese garden outside of China. More than just a beautiful garden, Lan Su is a creative wonder, a powerfully inspiring experience based on a 2000-year-old Chinese tradition that melds art, architecture, design and nature in perfect harmony.

Once inside the garden's walls, you'll feel as if you've traveled through time to another era in a faraway world. Lan Su is a window into Chinese culture, history and a way of thinking. The garden always has something new to offer. We will have a private tour of the Garden.

There will be an early dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory on the Waterfront. There will be three entrees: spaghetti with marinara sauce, baked lasagna with ground beef or chicken marsala. All entrees come with bread, salad and spumoni ice cream for dessert.

The cost of the trip will be $40. The price will include transportation, dinner and gratuities.

The bus will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the KCCA Library parking lot and return at approximately 7 p.m. Reservations must be made no later than May 11. No refunds will be available after the deadline date.

To participate in this adventure, you must be a KC Travel Club member with Emergency Contact information on file. Annual dues are $5 and are to be paid in a separate check from the cost of the trip. The checks are to be placed in the Travel Club slot at the Clubhouse Office. You must make a reservation before sending checks. If you have a care person, that person must pay for their space on the trip.

At the time you make your reservations, please give your food choice to Linda Herb at 541-536-1038.

The KC Travel Club also will be doing a two-night, three-day trip to Southern Oregon on May 19 to 21. The trip will include admission to the Shakespeare play "Romeo and Juliet." For more information regarding this trip call Linda Herb at 541-536-21038

Knitters and Crocheters welcome new members

King City Knitters and Crocheters has been a continuously operating group of caring people since 1969. They share their talents with people in need.

The N.W. Pilot Project, a  501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a safety net for people ages 55 and older who are experiencing a housing crisis. The knit and crochet group donates hats, gloves, scarves and other items to this worthy cause.

Other groups that benefit from the group are The Caring Closet for families and children, the VA Hospital Volunteers — who receive about 10 afghans every two to three months — and Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center, which receives baby hats, adult hats and other items.

If you are one who likes to give of yourself, please come join us. The group does not give lessons but will help where needed. You do not need to be an experienced needle crafter. Simple items are received gratefully.

Call Yvonne Wagner at 503-639-9440 for further information.
