...And 'Louie Louie' WILL be played

by: ERIC NORBERG - Iris Harrison, left, veteran DJ on KGON, is one of the inductees in the seventh annual Oregon Music Hall of Fame at the Aladdin Theater on October 5. Shes shown speaking to the Southeast Portland Rotary Club on September 16th. With her are co-founders of the Hall of Fame, Janeen Rundle, soon to be a club member; and Terry Currier, President of the Hall of Fame, who is with the Music Millennium record store in Portland. The seventh annual “Concert and Induction Ceremony” for the Oregon Music Hall of Fame will be held on Saturday, October 5, at the Aladdin Theater on S.E. Milwaukie Avenue just south of Powell, in the Brooklyn neighborhood. It’s at 7 pm, and you are invited.

The inductees come from all forms and types of music, and the ancillary fields, such as radio. Thus it is that one of the inductees is KGON radio personality Iris Harrison, who has been a fixture on the station for over 36 years.

Performing in the concert, are Quarterflash, who are Sellwood’s Marv and Rindy Ross, also known in other eras as Seafood Mama and the Trail Band – and The Kingsmen, who in their part of the concert WILL play their signature hit, recorded in a rudimentary studio in Portland, and once investigated by the FBI for whatever its incoherent lyrics might have, but did not, contain – “Louie Louie”.

The nonprofit Oregon Music Hall of Fame has 114 members to date, and this annual event at the Aladdin Theater is a fundraiser to benefit music education. The public is cordially urged to attend, to benefit the school music education program.
