Chances to do good
Monthly Mitzvah project underway
The Mittleman Jewish Community Center will be working with Portland Jewish Academy community members during the month of March to collect Pillows for Purim.
The pillows will benefit Community Warehouse, a furniture bank that serves the greater Portland area. Items for the Mitzvah Project can be dropped off in the blue bin located in the lobby of the Community Center, 6651 S.W. Capitol Highway.
SW Hope drive continues
Neighborhood House's SW Hope drive is aiming to collect 175,000 pounds of food or its cash equivalent by April 22 — enough to feed hungry residents of Southwest Portland for three months.
In addition to the ongoing canned food and donation collection, area faith groups and community partners will host events to benefit SW Hope. For example, the Hillsdale Community United Church of Christ, 6948 S.W. Capitol Highway, will host the artist Kendalin for a night of music at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 10.
There will also be two dining events in April. The Empty Bowls Soup Dinner is scheduled to run from 4:30-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, at the Multnomah Arts Center, 7688 S.W. Capitol Highway; and a Dine Out to Donate event will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday April 10, at Salvador Molly's, 1523 S.W. Sunset Blvd.

Tryon Creek seeks naturalist volunteers
Friends of Tryon Creek is seeking volunteers to lead educational activities and community learning experiences.
To become a naturalist educator, volunteers must commit to guiding a weekday morning field trip at least once a month throughout the school year and complete a training session.
Friends of Tryon Creek is partnering with Tualatin Riverkeepers to provide free educator training at the Tryon Creek Nature Center (11321 S.W. Terwilliger Blvd.) on Tuesday, Mar. 7. The all-day training, which is scheduled to start at 9 a.m., is designed to provide leadership and teaching tools in a variety of outdoor settings. Volunteers of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels are welcome to attend.
