Four people are vying for a vacant seat on the Scappoose City Council.
After it was announced that former City Councilor Joel
Haugen applied for the seat recently vacated by Barbara Hayden, three more people have put their name in for considertion.
As of the March 15 filing deadline, three more residents — Sandra Wiggs, Ty Bailey and Monica Darco — also submitted applications with the city recorder.
Haugen served on the council from 2014 to 2016 until he was outnumbered in votes during the November election. When Hayden announced she was resigning from the position to move out of the area, Haugen promptly applied.
Since then, Wiggs, who was appointed to serve on the Scappoose Budget Advisory Committee last August, along
with Bailey and Marco, have all registered interest in the position.
The council is expected to meet Monday, March 20, to review applicants, conduct interviews and appoint a candidate to fill the position. The appointed councilor will serve the rest of the term until December 2018.
