Hoffmeyer will serve as interim district attorney for the county until a new DA is appointed by the governor.

Hoffmeyer will serve Columbia County until the governor appoints someone to fill out the remainder of Atchison's elected term, which is set to expire in May 2018.

Applications were accepted by Gov. Brown's office from May 12-19. Appointees must be admitted to practice law in the Supreme Court of Oregon.

In the meantime, Hoffmeyer will serve as the lead prosecutor in the Columbia County DA's Office. She is currently overseeing the Apache Hightower homicide case, involving three different defendants, among several other cases in the county's legal system.
