Columbia County Sheriff's Office links six suspects to home burglary in Rainier, thousands of dollars in stolen goods recovered from homes, vehicles

A home burglary in Rainier in December and subsequent sting operation led to the arrest of six suspects for burglary, theft, and drug possession charges.

COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE PHOTO - Thousands of dollars worth of stolen goods, including instruments, tools and memorabilia, were seized during an extended burglary investigation and sting operation. When Columbia County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported burglary Dec. 8 at the home of Terry Wyle Laurelwood Road in Rainier, it wasn't until weeks later on Dec. 27 that a call from a pawn shop in Washington provided key leads in the case, the Sheriff's Office reported.

A pawn shop in Longview, Wash. contacted the Sheriff's Office, reporting suspicious items had been pawned there. After a CCSO investigator visited the Washington shop, a suspect was identified, based on pawn shop records, a CCSO news release states.

Further investigation, coupled with a sting operation in which deputies responded to posts on social media selling some of the stolen goods, led detectives to arrest Glenn Barker, 33, of Rainier, along with Daniel Frederick Gomez, 43, also of Rainier, on various charges of burglary and theft. Gomez was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and endangering a minor. During the process, many of the stolen items were recovered, CCSO reported.

In addition to the items reported stolen from the Rainer home, investigators also seized a truck used in the initial burglary, which had more stolen items in it.

Sheriff's investigators conducted a sting operation after they were notified by a Washington pawn shop of suspicious activity. Some of the stolen items were posted for sale online, while others were found during searches as part of an extended burglary investigation.

Following the arrests, detectives served a search warrant on Gomez's home on Jan. 2 in the 73000 block of Lindberg Road in Rainier, which had been the subject of a previous narcotics team investigation. There, they found more than $10,000 worth of collectible memorabilia reported stolen the month prior from the home on Laurelwood Lane.

A car was seized, which contained more stolen items, CCSO reported via news release Monday.

During the warrant search, Desiree Kristine Kauffman, 27, of Rainier, and Vanessa Jeanette Zamora, 33, also of Rainier, were arrested. A 3-year-old at the home was placed in the custody of Department of Human Services child welfare division.

When deputies got a warrant to search the car taken from Gomez's home, where an estimated $3,000 to $4,000 more worth of stolen items were found, according to CCSO.

"The investigation is ongoing, and we expect to recover additional stolen items," Sgt. Brian Pixley stated in the news release.

During a separate narcotics team investigation, two more suspects— Rebecca Wynn, 30, and Bruce Arquette, 22, both from Rainier, were also arrested for drug delivery offenses on Dec. 28. Investigators believe they are linked to the burglary.
