In brief: St. Helens School District releases construction safety plan
Areas of West Street adjacent to St. Helens Middle School and Columbia County Education Campus are expected to be impacted by construction-related traffic starting Thursday, Feb. 22, with activity to continue until the end of 2020, according to a press release from the district.
The school district has not yet approved a construction bid for two new buildings that will be built in the area, but is anticipating impacts and wants to share information about safety procedures that will be in place.
Operation of machinery and delivery of materials on West Street will be restricted during hours when students travel to and from school. Students living between Deer Island Road, North 11th Street, West Street and Oregon Street will have the option to request bus transportation due to walking hazards that will be present along West Street.
Students who walk to school will be able to access the buildings by using a student access path outside of a construction fence on site. A map outlining the area is available on the school district's website.
