Volleyball: St. Helens sweeps Parkrose

Gabby Susee dominates and the Lions win 25-20, 25-29, 25-29

by: JOHN WILLIAM HOWARD - Gabby Susee makes a pass during the third and final set of St. Helens' win over Parkrose. The Lions flattened Parkrose in straight sets.

The St. Helens Lady Lions gave Parkrose all they could handle and a little more on the volleyball court, dispatching the Broncos in straight sets 25-20, 25-21, 25-19 to move to 2-0 on the season.

Senior Gabby Susee continues to dominate up front. After finishing with 27 kills at the Hillsboro tournament, Susee was a force at the net once again for the Lions.

“Gabby had a good game,” said Lions' head coach Tom Ray. “I haven't even seen the final stats, but she hit the ball well.”

Ray was pleased with the win, but said the team gave up more points than he would have liked. The points came off of mistakes St. Helens made, mostly by overhitting the ball. Ray said such miscues were uncommon for the team.

“We should have been hitting the court. There were a lot of hitting errors,” Ray said. “We don't usually have those. It shouldn't have been that close, but Parkrose played tough.”
