Police cite 20 as part of pedestrian safety operation


Police issued the citations at the corner of Sherwood Boulevard and 12th Street on Tuesday

by: FILE PHOTO BY RAY PITZ - Sherwood police issued 20 citations for motorists violating pedestrian laws at Sherwood Boulevard and 12th Street Tuesday.Sherwood police issued 20 citations in two hours Tuesday following a pedestrian safety enforcement operation at the intersection of Sherwood Boulevard and Southwest 12th Street.

The operation was in direct response to citizen concerns voiced during recent Sherwood City Council meetings and other complaints, according to Capt. Ty Hanlon, a Sherwood police spokesman.

Hanlon said the primary focus was on drivers not stopping and remaining stopped for pedestrians in a marked crosswalk. The breakdown in citations is as follows:

  • 13 citations for failing to stop and remain stopped for a pedestrian

  • ·
  • 5 citations for unlawful use of a mobile communication device

  • ·
  • 1 citation for failure to use seat belt

  • ·
  • 1 citation for operating a vehicle with no driver’s license
