Residents show support for Sherwood School Board candidates in May race with support given to both of those -- Mike Hiland and Amber Dahl -- running for a four-year seat

Hansen deserves thanks; support goes to Hiland

I am writing to thank Connie Hansen for her many years of service as a member of the Sherwood School Board.

I understand she is not planning to seek another term. Patrick Allen and Eric Campbell are up for re-election and I plan to support both of these gentlemen. Hope you will consider doing the same.

I plan to support Mike Hiland in his bid for Sherwood School Board. Mike is currently the president of the Sherwood Education Foundation. He has been a consistent and tire less supporter of our schools and youth. He has served on various school PAC's, coached soccer and assisted on both the 2006 and 2016 bond measure campaigns. I know he is focused on seeking stable funding for our schools and establishing partnerships in the community to support students and staff to excel and prepare themselves for the future. I hope you will make a point to get to know Mike, if you do not already, and I am confident you too will support him at the ballot this May.

Hiland would be good fit on school board

As a former superintendent, I know that one of the most challenging community roles for any citizen volunteer is to serve as a school board member. These unpaid leaders are tasked with managing multi-million dollar budgets, overseeing complex employee contract agreements, providing stewardship of land, facilities, and equipment, all while responding to the interests and demands from a wide range of parents and community members.

Most important, we ask our school board leaders to provide a rich and engaging learning experience for all students under their charge. This is a daunting, yet very fulfilling role.

I energetically support candidate Mike Hiland to serve on the Sherwood School District Board. Those who know Mike see his unparalleled work ethic and strong commitment to keep kids first in all decisions. Mike has worked extensively in several volunteer roles to support the children of our community. He is authentically humble, yet very skilled. Perhaps most appealing, Mike is the leader who authentically seeks to learn about complex issues before making a decision.

As community members who care about our kids, we tend to shy away from single-issue candidates. Mike Hiland is the opposite, a well-balanced, mature leader who looks at complex challenges with perspective and wisdom. These are the type of traits you and I insist upon in our leaders, whether they are local, state, or national in responsibility. Mike Hiland personifies the best leadership in support of our kids.

Dahl would advocate for kids, transparency

Vote for Amber for the Sherwood School Board. Amber Dahl has been active for years in advocating for our kids to ensure that each child is able to receive instruction that is matched to their learning level. She has a great perspective as she has worked hard to be heard, and I know that as a school board member she will ensure that communication is open and transparent and that our concerns will be listened to and considered.

As a 10-year Sherwood resident, city budget committee member, and former school budget committee and Sherwood Charter School board member, I am confident that Amber will represent our community well and work hard for our kids' future.

Dahl is committed to improving education

I strongly endorse Amber Dahl for our school board. I have been privileged to attend the PACE group (Parents Advocating for Challenging Education) that she co-founded in 2011. Amber is very committed to helping students of every level reach their full potential.

Amber has spent several years volunteering in Sherwood schools. She is a skilled public speaker and an attentive listener. Amber is fair-minded, organized and works well with others. She is enthusiastic about improving education for our children and would be an asset to our school board.

Board candidate Hiland

is an excellent listener

I am writing to share my support for Mike Hiland for the Sherwood School Board Position No. 3. Mike would be an excellent addition to our school board. For the last three years I have had the pleasure of working with Mike on the board for the Sherwood Education Foundation. Mike has served as a wonderful leader on the SEF board as president for the time that I have been involved with SEF.

His care and concern for the students of the Sherwood School District is evident by the time and energy that he has given to the SEF board and it is clear that he works tirelessly to help improve the opportunities that the children in our district have.

Mike has an open mind regarding positive changes for the district and is eager to offer up help in any areas that are needed. It is obvious to those of us that have had the opportunity to work with Mike directly, that he cares deeply for the quality of education for all students and he advocates fairly and passionately for both students and staff of our district. Mike is an excellent listener who fully considers options before making important decisions. The SEF board has benefited greatly by having Mike as our President and I feel strongly that he would be a wonderful asset to the community as a member of our School Board.

Hiland is an experienced, tireless advocate for district

I have had the privilege of serving our community as a member of the Sherwood School Board for the past 12 years.

It has been a wonderful experience. Mike Hiland has chosen to continue his volunteer service in our district by running for Position 3 in the May election. There is no better candidate than Mike. He has selflessly served our school community for many years. He has participated in long range facility planning, in both bond campaigns, in boundary changes, as a member of the budget committee, and as President of the Sherwood Education Foundation for the past three years.

During my tenure on the board Mike has been a tireless advocate for our district and for adequate school funding. He has taken the initiative to become informed on the complex issues that the Board considers. I am grateful for his service to our district. I wholeheartedly support his candidacy and encourage you to cast your vote for Mike in the May election.
