Bowmen stand tall at top of the standings

Sherwood scores a key win against rival Wilsonville


SHERWOOD — And then there was one.

And that one is Sherwood.

The Sherwood High School boys basketball team claimed sole possession of first place in the Northwest Oregon Conference standings by powering its way to a 40-27 win over rival Wilsonvlle in a NWOC showdown played Tuesday at Sherwood High School.

Wilsonville, which was tied with the Bowmen for first place in the standings coming into the contest, fell to 10-3 in conference play and to 17-6 on the season with the setback.

Sherwood improved to 11-2 in NWOC play (18-4 overall), giving the Bowmen a one-game lead over both Wilsonville and Liberty with one game to play.

Senior post Jordan Kurahara led the Bowmen in Tuesday’s game with 13 points. Senior forward Lucas Johnson added 12 points while junior Ben Milligan scored five.

Prior to the win over Wilsonville, Sherwood posted a 44-40 win over Milwaukie in a NWOC game played last Thursday at Milwaukie High School.

Junior guard Evan Kitto paced the Bowmen with 16 points in that game. Kurahara added 14.

Sherwood can wrap up sole possession of the NWOC championship on Friday when it hosts Liberty in a conference finale starting at 7:15 p.m. at Sherwood High School.
