Company develops solar-powered floating device to clean water

Beaverton startup company Puralytics won a $53,000 grant from Oregon BESt to help commercialize a solar-powered stormwater treatment device that floats atop retaining ponds or other water and removes contaminants.

The device could be used in ditches along highways and parking lots, to prevent contaminants from reaching streams.

Puralytics will work with faculty and students at Oregon State University’s Institute for Water and Watersheds to evaluate the concept, establish design parameters and generate testing data. OSU’s research team will construct artificial ponds or tanks to study the devices.

Oregon BEST, which stands for Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies, is a state-funded collaboration among Oregon universities, which established a network of seven shared research facilities.
