Zenger Farm sets July groundbreaking date for Urban Grange project

Zenger Farm, Portland’s largest urban education farm, is nearing the finish line in their fundraising goal for their Urban Grange project.

Two recent grants put them at $1.6 million of their $1.9 million project. The Murdock Trust and the Meyer Memorial Trust granted the project $200,000 each.

Zenger Farm, located at Southeast Foster and 117th Avenue, plans to break ground on the Urban Grange in July and open it this winter.

The project will double Zenger Farm's capacity to educate families and promote healthy foods.

Already a nationally-recognized farm, the addition of the 7,760 square-foot Grange will give Zenger Farm the ability to expand youth field trips and summer camps as well as healthy eating workshops and farmer training programs. It will provide a new classroom, kitchen and workspace.

The 4-acre farm teaches communities to grow and eat affordably and healthy with hands-on classes and workshops. Over 7,000 students visit and participate yearly.

Bob's Red Mill, Bridgetown Natural Foods and New Season's Market are also financial supporters, having donated more than $700,000 to the project.
