Watershed Wide project involves 10 different work parties at sites along the urban creek

TRIBUNE FILE PHOTO  - A bicyclist pedals over Johnson Creek on the Springwater Corridor Trail.Hundreds of volunteers will fan out to 10 sites along Johnson Creek on Saturday for the annual Watershed Wide restoration event.

Individuals, nonprofits and businesses will unite for a day of stewardship activities along the urban creek, planning native trees and shrubs, removing invasive species and trash, and mulching young plantings.

Sponsored by the Johnson Creek Watershed Council, this is the 19th-annual Watershed Wide event. Work parties will occur from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by a free pizza party for all participants at Wall Street Pizza in Gresham and the watershed council's office in Milwaukie.

Johnson Creek stretches 26 miles through four cities and two counties, and is one of the last free-flowing streams in Portland.
