Customers can drop off cans and bottles to get their dimes back, at Fred Meyer store in Southwest Portland.

COURTESY: OBRC - The new BottleDrop location features a variety of options for recycling cans and bottles. Portlanders have another way to recycle their bottles and cans, thanks to a new BottleDrop Express location at Fred Meyer-Burlingame, in Southwest Portland.

The Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) is a non-profit cooperative that hopes to make it easier for people in the state to redeem their containers.

At this location, bottles and cans purchased in Oregon can be redeemed using two secure drop doors, two reverse vending machines, and an in-store kiosk where customers can create BottleDrop accounts. There is also a green bag drop-off available from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day of the week.

Staff at the facility will count the number of items brought in and credit the deposit to the customer's account. Then, at the kiosk, customers can withdraw their cash or choose PLUS rewards and receive a 20 percent increase on the money they received to use as in-store credit.

There are already 22 other BottleDrop Redemption Centers and 10 Express locations around Oregon, as well as 17 more Express locations being developed. OBRC operates the facilities with 400 employees who recycle 138 million pounds of glass, plastic, and aluminum per year.
