Eighth-grade OTA student invites Sandy community to walk with Buddy

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - Ryan Weber and Buddy.Buddy the dog, who has been a member of the Weber family now for about five years, has now become an inspiration for eighth grader Ryan Weber's school project.

From 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, Weber will host his first-ever Buddy Walk, to benefit his local Muttsketeers 4-H club and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The walk, besides being a fundraiser, will also count as a community service project at Weber's school — Oregon Trail Academy — and toward his leadership project for the Muttsketeers.

"I think it will be fun," Weber said. "I'm hoping we will do it again next year."

So far, Weber has been mostly self-promoting his event, and having fun emailing his teachers to notify students and hanging posters around town.

"I'm figuring out how to make it happen," he adds. "The planning part is exciting."

The walk will take place at Meinig Park, 17670 Meinig Ave., and day-of registration will take place at the park starting at 9:30 a.m.

The route along community sidewalks and paths is two miles with a grassy stopping area part way through.

Commemorative T-shirts will be provided for the entry price of $16. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
