At this year's Sandy Music Fair and Feast, Leathers Fuel will sponsor a designated Family Day on Sunday, July 9. The day will include the chili cook-off and bake-off sponsored by community steward Clackamas County Bank. Arts and crafts will be offered, and the first 100 children to enter will receive special goody bags from Leathers.
"I am excited we're doing big, full, blown-out family day," Chamber Director Khrys Jones says. "We want to make it more kid-friendly, not just a drinking event. Make it more about community."
A raffle will also be going on throughout family day, and participants have the chance of winning a night's stay and golf for two at the Resort at the Mountain in Welches. Proceeds will go to a breast cancer organization of the chamber's choosing to honor its late director Kristy Wheeler, who died in January 2016.
Another new feature to take advantage of sooner rather than later is the pre-selling of tickets. All tickets bought before the event kicks off at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 6, are $15, but a $22 value as they buy you a VIP entrance, a limited-edition commemorative cup and 12 tokens for food and drink.
Les Schwab, the presenting sponsor of the event, also is giving out $2 off admission coupons if you visit the shop at 37895 Highway 26.
Friday and Saturday nights are fair game for date nights, with entry granted to the 21-and-over crowd only after 8 p.m., but Thursday night will remain a designated family night, and admission will be free of charge. That night's festivities will kick off during the Sandy Mountain Festival parade, and feature music from Hit Machine after the parade.
"For me it's a natural thing to enjoy that Sunday afternoon with the kids and make it more family-oriented," Jones explains. "I know the chamber's wanted to do a family day, (and) having a family day sponsor this year has allowed us to do it. We have all these new sponsors this year — it's so cool."
