TRAFFIC WARNING FOR LOCAL NEIGHBORHOODS
The following is a letter that will be distributed this weekend to the residents who reside along Strawbridge Parkway, Bluff Road south of the Highway 26, and Sunset Street in Sandy. The letter details the impacts on traffic as volunteers stage the parade between 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 6.
SANDY MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL PARADE
TRAFFIC IMPACT, July 6
To the residents of Strawbridge Parkway, Bluff Road and Sunset Street
WHAT: Parade Staging.
WHEN: Thursday, July 6.
TIME: 4-8 p.m.
Once again the Sandy Mountain Festival Parade will take over your street for staging of the July 6 event. We know this is an inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience. We promise to be respectful of your property, and to make sure you have unrestricted access to your homes and driveways. We'll have SMF board members patrol the staging area, watching to make sure participants are respectful of your lawns, flower beds, fences, etc. We will not block anyone's driveway.
Last year we had a problem when a float blocked Strawbridge Parkway, which prevented a small number of residents from accessing their homes. We apologize for that error of judgment, and we'll work even more diligently this year to make sure that mistake does not repeat itself.
WARNING: Vehicles parked on Strawbridge, Bluff Road or Sunset within the staging area are subject to being towed between 4-8 p.m. July 6.
STRAWBRIDGE: On-street parking will be prohibited between 4-8 p.m. Strawbridge will switch to one-way traffic westbound at 4 p.m. when parade applicants begin arriving. No vehicles will be allowed to enter Strawbridge eastbound from Bluff Road once the road closure signs are put in place. Local traffic will need to loop around and enter Strawbridge from Tupper Road.
BLUFF ROAD: On-street parking will be prohibited between 4-8 p.m. Bluff Road (between Highway 26 and Strawbridge Parkway) will remain open in both directions until 5:59 p.m. But Bluff Road will close in both directions beginning at 6 p.m. Road closure signs will be posted at 6 p.m. Residents of homes on Bluff Road are asked to enter from Sandy Heights. The intersection of Bluff Road and Sunset Street becomes highly congested during staging. The more traffic we can keep off the intersection, the better for everyone.
SUNSET STREET: On-street parking will be prohibited between 4-8 p.m. Sunset will switch to one-way traffic eastbound starting at 4 p.m. Road closure signs will go up at University Avenue and Bluff Road. Residents along Sunset may access their homes by entering from University Avenue. No traffic will be allowed to enter Sunset westbound from Bluff Road beginning at 4 p.m.
Everything will return to normal on your streets by about 8 p.m. when the last parade entries roll onto the parade route. We'll drive through your neighborhoods after the parade to pick up litter that has been left behind.
Again, thank you for your patience. We appreciate that you graciously allow us to invade your neighborhood one night a year to stage our parade. If you have questions, please call Parade Director Steven Brown at 503-890-6160.
Thanks, Steve Brown (parade director)
