71-year-old Martin P. Lavell was working as a traffic flagger in Happy Valley when run over on the job

Tragedy struck on Friday, June 23, after a malfunctioning dump truck ended the life of 71-year-old Sandy man Martin P. Lavell.

Lavell had been working on a construction site near the intersection of Southeast 132nd Avenue and Southeast Rose Meadow Drive in Happy Valley when the driver of a nearby dump truck lost control of the vehicle and struck Lavell.

Local police and officers from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office along with American Medical Response arrived shortly after at around 4:12 p.m. and pronounced Lavell deceased.

Law enforcement are still investigating the incident, and have not made any arrests at this time. Names of the other parties involved are not being released to allow time for family to be notified.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office warns people to continue to "drive with extreme caution in and around construction zones."
