Fire board recognizes school district
Every year the Sandy Fire District Board recognizes a local partner of the department with the Sandy Fire District's Board Award. This year, Chief Phil Schneider presented the award to representatives of the Oregon Trail School District at the department's annual awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 6.
"We felt this was the perfect year to thank them," Schneider added.
Schneider told The Post that the department's partnership with the school district is integral to continuing fire district operations while the fire station is being renovated.
The school district has allowed the fire department to house fire engines on Oregon Trail property for more than a year while the firefighters have been remotely stationed.
"We are honored to receive this award, but acknowledge that Sandy Fire actually deserves an award from OTSD," noted school district Superintendent Aaron Bayer. "Sandy Fire District has been at the table throughout the years to advise OTSD on emergency planning, to train our staff in emergency preparedness and response, and to ensure our students are learning in a safe environment. This award speaks to the fact that our partnership is strong and our joint purpose is student safety."
