Pedestrian hospitalized after early morning crash
Oregon State Police are still investigating after Warm Springs man Raphael Fredrick Caldera, 51, was struck and injured by a motorist on Highway 26 early this morning, Feb. 14. At around 12:35 a.m. Caldera was attempting to cross the roadway on foot at milepost 22 when he was hit by a 2007 Nissan Sentra driven by Boring woman Sarah Wall, 33. Wall stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police. Caldera was transported with life-threatening injuries to a local hospital.
In a release sent out this afternoon, police said Caldera was wearing dark clothing and trying to cross a portion of the roadway where there isn't ambient lighting. Sandy Police Department, Sandy Fire Department and Warm Springs Police Department and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) also responded to the accident. ODOT assisted in closing down the westbound lanes of the highway and diverting traffic while police investigated.
